Wine Country Retreat

Take a look at this breathtaking estate in Napa county, California. A retreat that’s complete with guest house and offers several locations to enjoy the outdoors throughout the change of the seasons. Designed by the very talented team of Andrew Mann Architects, this private vacation compound has dramatic views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains beyond. The interior was designed by one of my favorite designers – Kara Mann. According to the architect, “the client wished to create an updated, contemporary take on the traditional country house. The buildings all open to a simple, elegant and lush private garden, with house and landscape accentuating outdoor living spaces. Exterior materials and interior finishes are luxurious in texture and define a simple white and grey-tone color palette.”

I love so many aspects of this home – let me take you through some of the pictures …

and as always … Thank you for taking the time to read HAVEN STUDIOS’s blog!

The outdoor living spaces around this house are amazing! The pergola of the main house offers a protective solid portion for seating as well as an open trellis portion. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a glass of wine here?

The above picture also shows the guest house adjacent to the main house and the pool. Everything, including the landscape is very structured and built around clean contemporary lines yet feels comfortable.

Plenty of Shiplap in this Home

Here’s a home by an architect and designer, who’s work I very much admire – Eric Olson. I couldn’t really find any information about the house and the design process; so I am not sure if it was a remodel or new construction, but nevertheless, it is beautiful (and I am guessing it is a remodel). I am especially in love with the kitchen: the grey cabinets in a shaker style, the island, the mix of shiplap and board & batten wall paneling, and the dark hardwood floors in contrast to the neutral colors in the room. Eric Olsen’s team created a house that feels clean and airy, but at the same time very comfortable and cozy due to the many textures used throughout. It shows that simplicity can instill a lot of character if done right. Overall, a very nicely balanced design, which I am sure is well appreciated by the home owner. Enjoy the pictures, and I hope you’ll find some inspiration for your own design and/or home.

Calistoga Spanish Hacienda

Some designers and architects create outstanding work; Ken Linsteadt is one of them, and the following blog post showcases one of my favorite projects of his: the Calistoga Cloister. The residence is a traditional Spanish hacienda, located in Calistoga, CA. The estate features beautiful courtyards, terraces, and an expansive pool area, as well as thick plaster walls, high arches, rough-hewn beams, and steel windows that capture the views of beautiful vineyards of the Napa Valley. The floors throughout the voluminous interior are stained concrete tiles with subtle variations in pattern from room to room. Other details include carved limestone fireplaces, over-scaled iron light fixtures, salvaged oak beams, tile roofing, cupolas, and a winding iron staircase with steps clad in artisan tiles. All-in-all a very impressive estate!

Coastal House in Fresh Muted Colors

Take a look at this gorgeous Newport Beach residence of Julie and Darrick Walker. Here’a what the designers had to say about the home: “It has an elegant coastal style with European overtones,” says landscape designer Molly Wood, who collaborated on the project with architect Cynthia Childs and designers Erin Curci and Erin Flinn. “The house looks like it’s always been there, yet it has modern elements,” says Childs, while Flinn notes that it feels “casual yet elegant, beautiful but realistic.” Builder Neil Longman would describe the residence as having “a beachy feel mixed with rustic elements.” While the house might have its contradictions, they all fit seamlessly together.

As for me, the house really stood out for its monochrome muted colors and textures. All design elements have an unpretentious ambiance and the house feels both lived in as well as organized, bright, and uncluttered. The Walkers and their design team created an amazing place that is welcoming to all its visitors and maximizes outdoor living.
